Getting Started with Oriens

From install to your first EU Omnibus compliance badge in under 10 minutes. Follow these steps in order — each one builds on the last.

1 Install from the Shopify App Store

Head to the Shopify App Store and search for Oriens, or follow the direct install link from your invite. Click Add app and approve the permission scopes Oriens requests — these cover read access to your products and orders so Oriens can record price changes as they happen.

Once installed, Oriens appears in your Shopify admin under Apps. No manual configuration is required to start tracking. The moment the app is installed, Oriens takes a snapshot of every product price in your catalog and begins recording any price changes from that point forward.

Note: Price tracking is retroactive from the install date only. Oriens cannot recover price history that existed before you installed the app. The EU Omnibus Directive requires 30 days of history before the badge is displayed, so the sooner you install, the sooner the badge can appear on all your products.

2 Verify tracking is working

Open the Oriens app from your Shopify admin. You'll land on the Dashboard. Navigate to the Products tab in the left sidebar.

Within a few minutes of installing, you should see your products listed with their current price recorded. Each product row shows:

  • The product title and variant count
  • The current price and the date it was last recorded
  • A sparkline showing price movement over time (this will grow richer as more history accumulates)
  • A compliance status indicator — either a green checkmark (30+ days of history, badge ready) or a clock icon (still accumulating history)

If you don't see your products appear within 5 minutes, try refreshing the page. If the product list is still empty after 15 minutes, check the FAQ or contact support.

3 Add the compliance badge to your theme

Oriens uses Shopify's Theme App Extensions to inject the compliance badge directly into your storefront without touching your theme code. This is the recommended method and works with all Online Store 2.0 themes (Dawn, Sense, Refresh, and most third-party themes from 2022 onwards).

To add the badge:

  1. In the Oriens app, click Compliance Badge in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the Add to theme button. Oriens will open the Shopify Theme Editor with the Oriens app block pre-selected.
  3. In the Theme Editor, navigate to a Product page template on the left. You should see an Oriens Compliance Badge block listed in the product information section.
  4. If the block is not already placed, click Add block and select Oriens Compliance Badge from the app blocks list.
  5. Drag the block to position it directly below your price element.
  6. Click Save in the Theme Editor.
Using a classic theme? If your theme was built before Shopify's OS 2.0 update, Theme App Extensions may not be available. See the classic theme installation guide for instructions on adding the badge via a Liquid snippet.

4 Verify the badge is showing

Visit any product page in your live storefront (not the Theme Editor preview) and scroll to the price area. You should see the Oriens compliance badge appearing below the price.

The badge will show one of two states:

  • Active badge: Displays the lowest price in the last 30 days with a date range label. This means Oriens has at least 30 days of price history for this product and the badge is fully compliant.
  • Pending badge: Shows a message indicating history is still being collected. This is normal for products that were recently installed. The badge will automatically switch to its active state once 30 days have passed.

If the badge is not visible at all, see the troubleshooting section in the Compliance Badge docs.

5 Customize the badge appearance (optional)

By default the Oriens badge uses a neutral style that works with most themes. You can change the label text, colors, border style, and whether to show the badge on sale products only.

To customize: in the Theme Editor with the Oriens block selected, use the right-hand settings panel to adjust the available options. Changes are live-previewed in the editor before you save.

For the full list of customization options — including CSS overrides and positioning — see the Compliance Badge documentation.
